Some people feel ecstatic when monsoon sets in. the beautiful rains, the roaring thunders and the gorgeous smell of the earth makes this a beautiful time of the year. But for most women, monsoon means frizzy hair and that is something we all women dread!
Frizzy hair can turn even the most composed women crazy! For those who have god given curls, life is still manageable with a few styling products. But for women who have straight hair, wavy hair or damaged hair, frizz can turn every single day in to a ‘Bad Hair Day’. So here we have for you a few tips that can make bad hair days history! Walk out in confidence, 365 days a year, and enjoy whatever hairstyle you love to sport!
But before you learn how to get rid of frizzy hair, understand what causes frizz in the hair. To begin with – heat and humidity are the biggest culprits. Add to that the constant heat styling you put your hair through, like flat irons and blow dry, and your hair is an irreparable disaster. But a few frizz free hair tips can come to your rescue and we will discuss these now.
Tips to Smooth Frizzy Hair:
Get some oil everyday
Oil your hair regularly when you feel the frizz is getting out of hand. Not only will the oil give nourishment to your hair, but it will also make styling easier for you. Use olive oil, mustard oil or coconut oil. Heat it a little bit and rub in to the scalp for best results. Also, don’t forget to oil the tips of your hair shaft. Leave the oil for 20-30 minutes for deep conditioning and then wash off with a shampoo.
Proper towel drying
Rough towel drying can cause excess frizz in the hair. Dryness is the biggest culprit, adding to your frizz problem. So make sure you don’t wash your hair everyday in the monsoons. If you feel your hair is too oily, try dry shampoos. Every time you use a shampoo, you strip your hair of natural oils and nourishment, leaving them dry and frizzy. So using a conditioner after every wash is a MUST. Once your hair is washed, pat them dry instead of rubbing them vigorously. It is best to air dry your hair and avoid a blow dry if your hair is naturally frizzy.
To combat frizz, you need a good deep conditioner. Invest in a good overnight deep conditioner or a hair masque for smoother hair. If you don’t want to do that, you can make your very own deep conditioner at home! Mix an egg, 1 banana and one avocado and mash it up to a pulp. Apply on hair and leave for 15 minutes, covered with a hot towel. Then wash your hair. Make sure you use a good conditioner, which suits your hair type, after each and every wash. Also, talk to an expert about using the right shampoo/conditioner combo based on your hair length, type and style. Another great investment is a hair serum. Apply just a dollop in to semi dry hair and make sure the serum is only applied to the hair, never the scalp.
Proper combing & styling
There are a few things you can do to comb and style frizzy hair. To begin with, use a wide tooth comb to detangle hair. Then use a round brush for styling, one with holes in it that doesn’t cause the brush to heat up when you use a hair dryer. You will find these metal brushes with holes at all cosmetic stores. Also, when styling hair, use a hair protectant because the heat from a flat iron or a hair dryer can cause extra frizz if not protected!
And that is all you need for smooth, silky hair that is shining and always beautiful! If all else fails, it is probably because you have long tresses that are too tough to maintain. Sport a shorter and more chic hair style during the worse months to come.
