Exclusive Chicken Paprikash Recipe

The most famous Hungarian stew can now be made at home! This comfort food is easy to cook, and using boneless chicken thigh pieces adds more flavor to the dish, whole reducing the cooking time too. Surprise your guests with this gourmet dish for a dinner party and get lots of well deserved compliments!

Ingredients

  • 2 tbsp Olive Oil
  • 1 lb chicken thighs boneless and skinless
  • 1 onion sliced real thin
  • 3 cloves garlic
  • 2-1/2 cups cremini mushrooms sliced and trimmed
  • 2 tbsp sweet paprika
  • 3 tbsp all-purpose flour
  • 2 tbsp tomato paste
  • 2 cups chicken broth must be sodium reduced
  • 1 tsp lemon juice
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1 pinch pepper
  • 1 package broad egg noodles
  • 1/2 cup 5% sour cream
  • 2 tbsp fresh parsley chopped

Instructions

  1. Use a nonstick pan and heat a tablespoon of Olive oil over medium heat. Put in the diced chicken and brown evenly on all sides. Toss it around for 4 to 5 minutes, or unless cooked, and then remove from the pan and drain on some absorbent kitchen towels.
  2. Now put the remaining oil in the pan. Add the garlic, chopped onions and mushrooms and cook for a minute or so. Throw in some paprika and toss around gently. Cook the mixture until the onions turn translucent. This should take about 2 to 3 minutes.
  3. Now turn the pan on medium heat, add flour and tomatoes to the mix. Keep stirring and add the broth. Turn the heat to high again and bring the mixture to a boil. Now reduce heat and simmer until the gravy thickens, which shouldn’t take more than 2 minutes. Add the chicken back to the pan and also add a squeeze of lemon, salt and pepper to taste.
  4. Cook the egg noodles as per packet instructions in a large pot of boiling salted water. Once cooked, drain them and remove any excess water. To serve, add a big heap of noodles on to a plate, top with the chicken mixture and add more gravy. Garnish with some chopped parsley and sour cream and serve hot!
